Bioeconomy & Sustainable Construction: A Cross-Border Cooperation between the Grand Est Region & Baden-Württemberg
From April 2nd to 4th, the Grand Est region hosted a delegation from Baden-Württemberg for a “Learning Expedition” focused on biobased construction.
This gathering aimed at showcasing our regional expertise in timber construction (in the Vosges) and hemp (in the Aube department) – two key pillars of the bioeconomy in Grand Est.

Strategic talks & meetings on Wood & Hemp
The itinerary included visits to:
- the National School of Wood Technology and Wood Industry (ENSTIB)
- the technology transfer centers CRITT BOIS and Fibres Recherche Developpment (FRD – Codem)
- The Green Valley
- the Xylolab
- the agricultural cooperative La Chanvrière
- the European Hemp Center
Strengthening Cross-Border Cooperation
This visit aligns with the engagements made in January to strengthen cooperation between our two regions in key areas such as Environment, Energy, and Innovation.
Since 2019, the Grand Est region and Baden-Württemberg have been working together on concrete projects related to the bioeconomy. This new phase aims to structure sustainable cooperation at the cross-border and European levels.
The next step will be a major meeting on the European bioeconomy strategy which will take place in Strasbourg in September.
