Call for Expression of Interest at Ottmarsheim Port Site – A Major Logistics Hub in Europe (68)

EURO RHEIN PORTS has launched a Call for Expressions of Interest (CEI) to identify new logistics, industrial, or mixed-use projects directly connected to inland waterways, on the strategic Ottmarsheim port site — a major logistics hub at the heart of European freight flows.

In order to support the development of multimodal transport in the ports of southern Alsace and the transition to carbon-free mobility, strategic port sites have been identified within the port of Ottmarsheim(FR), near the German and Swiss borders, near the Grand Canal d’Alsace, the Rhine, and the Mulhouse (FR) – Müllheim (GER).

A strategic site at the center of European flows

Some of the sites of this CEI are already connected to the rail network and/or located on the waterfront, offering great potential for new logistics, industrial, or mixed-use projects.

Located on the Grand Canal d’Alsace, the port of Ottmarsheim enjoys a privileged position: :

• In the center of the Mulhouse-Rhine Industrial Zone,
• On the port concession of the Rhine port of Ottmarsheim, close to its handling equipment (container gantries, cranes, etc.)
• At the crossroads of France, Germany and Switzerland, close to a former customs platform served by several motorways
• Connected to major European transport corridors of Rhine–Alps and North Sea–Mediterranean.

This positioning places the site at the heart of European freight flows and enables it to host a solid industrial and logistics ecosystem, already composed of major companies in the chemical, steel, agriculture, and logistics sectors.

Type of expected applications

The purpose of this call for expressions of interest is to identify operators wishing to develop a coherent, integrated, and sustainable business that is fully connected to river and/or rail transport.

More specifically, candidates should:

• Propose coherent, integrated, and sustainable logistics and industrial activities that are compatible with the port’s existing and future infrastructure.
• Fully leverage the advantages of rail and/or river transport by optimizing the consolidation of flows and reducing the environmental footprint.
• Promote synergies with companies already present on the site, contributing to a solid industrial and logistics ecosystem and helping to reduce the environmental footprint of activities.
• Comply with regulatory and environmental policies applicable to leased land as well as to the environment of the nearby industrial zone, and demonstrate the overall feasibility of the project.

The selected projects must be consistent with economic, logistical, territorial, and environmental performance objectives.
