Elanco invests 35 millions euros in Huningue (68)

The animal health specialist group Elanco continues to invest in the development of its activities in Eastern France. In March 2025, an investment of 35 million euros was announced.

Elanco : a Leading Company in Animal Health

Inaugurated in 1987, the Huningue site (Haut-Rhin) specializes in producing tablets designed to prevent, treat, and cure various ailments that pets may suffer from. The Alsace site annually produces 270 million tablets and 17 million blisters, exporting worldwide. Today, 13% of Elanco’s pet business revenue and 47% of its revenue in France are generated at this center of excellence.

To meet increased demand and support the production of the latest innovations, Elanco launched a new expansion project in 2024. The foundation stone was laid in March 2025.

Innovating in Animal Health

This investment will enable the Huningue site to produce two new innovative drugs intended for animal health professionals: an antiparasitic for pets and a drug for canine dermatitis.

To ensure this new production, 50 new jobs will be created, in addition to the 230 people already working at the Huningue site. They will strengthen the teams already working on the production of the new drugs.

The production of these new drugs has already started on the current lines and an investment of 11 million investments have already been made on these production lines so they could be adapted to this new activity. The new products will first be manufactured for the Canadian, American and Japanese markets. In a second phase, they will be distributed in Europe as well.

An Investment Supported by the Region Grand Est

Since its establishment in Huningue, the Elanco group has benefited from the support of the Grand Est Region, ADIRA, and local authorities. This is why, during the official announcement of the investment by the president of Elanco World industrial activity, many key players from the territory were present. Among them, the President of ADIRA Laurent Riche, the sub-prefect, representatives of the Region, and the CCI. The Region Grand Est could also support this investment project financially. The support of ADIRA has enabled the allocation of regional grants amounting to 200,000 € which should facilitate the financing of a new packaging line.
