Atmos Space Cargo has established its R&D Center in Eastern France
ATMOS Space Cargo, the German space company based in Lichtenau (Germany), has finally chosen Strasbourg as the location for its first European office. The new office will be dedicated to space health research and logistics.
Designing a Logitics Chain for Manufacturing in Microgravity
The company has been welcomed recently into the International Space University (ISU) incubator, co-financed and supported by l’Eurométropole de Strasbourg. The recent establishement of the company shall consolidate the rapidly growing health and space ecosystem in the Grand Est region.
ATMOS plans is to launch seven autonomous missions starting in 2026. Its goal is to create a microgravity manufacturing supply chain for customers in the healthcare sector. The microgravity conditions in space offer an unparalleled environment for research, development and even production in the fields of life sciences, healthcare and biotechnology. Microgravity makes it possible accelerate many scientific processes, such as:
→ The acceleration of cell ageing
→ The rapid renewal of certain stem cells
→ Protein crystallisation
→ studying bacterial growth and antibiotic resistance
→ assembling cells into 3D structures
Thus, These innovative new scientific processes are paving the way for major advances in medical research, the development of new drugs and disease modelling.
Strasbourg, a Strategic Location for ATMOS Space Cargo
At the present time, Atmos aims to recruit 35 employes at the Strasbourg site, joining a team of 60 technicians, engineers, etc. On its new site, ATMOS specifically plans to recruit specialists in human resources, finance, business development, engineering and R&D.
“Strasbourg, at the intersection of the space and medical fields, was the obvious choice for ATMOS in the development of our healthcare activities. The joint presence of the International Space University (ISU) and a competitiveness cluster dedicated to healthcare was a decisive factor in our decision […]. Its location in the heart of the Rhine Biovalley, a unique ecosystem in Europe dedicated to healthcare, and its proximity to our headquarters in Germany are major assets,” explains Marta Oliveira, Director of Operations and Co-founder of ATMOS Space Cargo. “In addition, the presence of academic institutions and major companies in the life sciences sector makes it an ideal place to develop partnerships and collaborations.”

A Tailor-Made Support in an Innovation-Driven Region
In Strasbourg, the International Space University (ISU) hosts pioneering companies such as Space Pharma and Prometheus Life Technologies. These are developing technologies to facilitate biomedical research in microgravity. In Reims, Latitude is also a major player in the manufacture of space launchers. The company Atmos has already announced a commercial agreement with the promising start-up earlier this year.
The International Space University and Grand Est Développement International, in close collaboration with the ADIRA and Biovalley France, accompanied ATMOS Space Cargo during the several steps prior to its establishement in Strasbourg.
“An increasing number of international start-ups are choosing to join the ISU, often because their founders or key members come from our alumni network. They know that here they will benefit from an environment conducive to their growth, based on the expertise, support and trust of a close-knit international community.”
All partners involved wish ATMOS Space Cargo much success in its development in Eastern France.
